San Fernando Valley History

 

Kevin Roderick is the founder, publisher and editor of LA Observed. He is a veteran Los Angeles journalist, the author of two books about the city, and a native Angeleno. He provides a brief history and much more about the San Fernando Valley on his site The Valley Observed.

If you would like to browse historic photos of the San Fernando Valley and the rest of Los Angeles, UCLA is home to the digital photographic collections of the Los Angeles Times and the Los Angeles Daily News. The collection is titled, Changing Times - Los Angeles in Photographs, 1920 - 1990.

California State University Northridge is home to the San Fernando Valley History Digital Library which is a seperate collection that focuses solely on the Valley and is part of the Oviatt Library. In addition to photographs it includes documents.

The Los Angeles Public Library also has a great collection of images that should not be missed. They can be found at photofriends.org.
