SUPERVISOR ZEV YAROSLAVSKY ANNOUNCES
ENDORSEMENT OF ALEX PADILLA FOR SENATE
LOS
ANGELES – At the Padilla campaign’s official
kick-off with hundreds of volunteers and supporters, Los
Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky announced his
support of Los Angeles City Council President Alex Padilla’s
campaign for the 20th State Senate District. Supervisor
Yaroslavsky and U.S. Congressmember Howard Berman, who
has also endorsed Padilla, are two of the Valley’s
most respected and longest-serving elected officials.
“Alex Padilla is a leader who is truly committed
to the people he serves. He was born and raised in the
Valley, and he came back here after graduating from M.I.T.
because he wanted to make the Valley a better place for
all families. His leadership has brought real change to
the neighborhoods he represents on the City Council – from
more jobs and sorely needed housing to after school programs
to the Valley’s first police station in more than
two decades. As a State Senator, I know he’ll be
able to use his experience to bring more resources from
Sacramento to the Valley,” said Supervisor Yaroslavsky.
“Supervisor Yaroslavsky’s endorsement is
important because of depth of his experience working on
Valley issues and the respect of Valley residents that
he has earned through his decades of service on the City
Council and the Board of Supervisors. He is a respected
leader on some of the largest challenges facing Los Angeles
-- from the solvency of our health care system to winning
approval for major public transit projects. I am honored
to have his support," said Councilmember Padilla.
Supervisor Yaroslavsky was first elected to the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors in 1994 and represents most
of the San Fernando Valley. Prior to his election to the
Board of Supervisors, Yaroslavsky was elected six times
to the Los Angeles City Council.
Councilmember
Padilla is running for the State Senate seat being vacate by
State Senator Richard Alarcon. The primary election will
be held in June 2006.
Supervisor Yaroslavsky joins a growing list of leaders
and organizations who have endorsed Alex Padilla for State
Senate, including U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara
Boxer, U.S. Congressmembers Howard Berman, Jane Harman,
Juanita Millender-McDonald, Lucille Roybal-Allard, Grace
Napolitano, Maxine Waters, and Diane Watson, Los Angeles
County Supervisors Yvonne Burke and Gloria Molina, Los
Angeles City Councilmember Tony Cardenas, LAPD Chief Bill
Bratton, the Los Angeles Police Protective League, Laborers
Local 300, United Food and Commercial Workers Local 770,
Los Angeles Port Police Association, and the Teamsters
Joint Council #42.
