L.A. SCHOOL POLICE ASSOCIATION
ENDORSES ALEX PADILLA
FOR SENATE
LOS
ANGELES – The
Los Angeles School Police Association today joined United
Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) and a growing
list of organizations that are supporting Los Angeles City
Councilmember Alex Padilla’s campaign for the 20th
State Senate District. Padilla also has the endorsement of
the Los Angeles Police Protective League, which represents
the men and women of the Los Angeles Police Department who
serve and protect our neighborhoods.
“We as law enforcement professionals look forward to working with Alex
to provide safer schools and a safer environment,” said James Ream, President
of the Los Angeles School Police Association.
“As a graduate of Los Angeles public schools and someone whose sister now
teaches at an L.A. public school, I have a first-hand understanding of the importance
of school safety. I’m proud that L.A.’s school police are joining
L.A. teachers in supporting my campaign. I look forward to working with them
to ensure that our students and teachers are able to focus on education, and
not have to worry about their safety at school," said Councilmember Padilla.
The Los Angeles School Police Association represents the nation’s largest
school police department and includes police officers, detectives, and plant
security aides.
Other leaders and organizations who have endorsed Alex Padilla for State Senate
include: U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer; Congressmembers
Howard Berman, Jane Harman, Juanita Millender-McDonald, Lucille Roybal-Allard,
Grace Napolitano, Maxine Waters, and Diane Watson; Los Angeles County Supervisors
Yvonne Burke, Gloria Molina, and Zev Yaroslavsky; Los Angeles City Councilmember
Tony Cardenas; LAPD Chief Bill Bratton; Laborers Local 300, United Food and
Commercial Workers Local 770, the Los Angeles Port Police Association, the
Teamsters Joint Council #42, NABET-CWA Local 53, and Communication Workers
of America (CWA) Locals 9400, 9505, 9510, and 9586.
Councilmember Padilla is running for the State Senate seat being vacated
by State Senator Richard Alarcon. The primary election will be held in June
2006.
