SUPERVISOR GLORIA MOLINA ENDORSES
ALEX PADILLA FOR SENATE LOS
ANGELES – Los Angeles County Supervisor
Gloria Molina today announced her support for Los Angeles
City Council President Alex Padilla in his campaign for
the 20th State Senate District.
“Alex Padilla can bring people together and get
things done. He has worked hard to bring much-needed services
to Valley neighborhoods, such as more after-school programs
and neighborhood libraries,” Molina noted. “Supervisor Molina has done so much for the people
of Los Angeles County, from creating new parks to fighting
for better education for our kids. Her groundbreaking career
in public service has made her a true role model for young
Latinos across Southern California. I’m proud to
have her support,” Padilla noted. Councilmember Padilla is running for the State Senate
seat being vacated by State Senator Richard Alarcon. The
primary election will be held in June 2006. Supervisor Molina is serving her fourth term on the Board
of Supervisors. In 1991, she made history as the first
Latina elected to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
Prior to her election to the Board of Supervisors, Molina
was the first Latina to win a seat in the California State
Assembly in 1982. In 1987, she became the first Latina
to serve on the Los Angeles City Council. A leader in national Democratic politics, Supervisor
Molina has served as a national Democratic committeewoman
and as Vice Chair of the Democratic National Committee. ###
