TEAMSTERS JOINT COUNCIL 42
ENDORSES ALEX PADILLA FOR SENATE
LOS
ANGELES – Teamsters Joint Council
42 today announced its support for Los Angeles City Council
President Alex Padilla in his race for the 20th State Senate
district.
“Alex Padilla understands how important a union
job can be to a family because he grew up in a union household
in Pacoima. He has been a leader in creating good jobs
in the San Fernando Valley,” said Jim Santangelo,
President of Teamsters Joint Council 42. Teamsters Joint
Council 42 represents 140,000 workers and their families
in Southern California, including over 5,200 workers in
the 20th State Senate district.
“The Teamsters have a long history of fighting for
working men and women, at the plant gate and at the ballot
box,” said Council President Padilla. “Teamsters
members work every day to keep the economy of the San Fernando
Valley moving and I’m proud to have their support.”
In the past two weeks, Padilla has picked up endorsements
from U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein,
Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina and five of
the eight women representing Los Angeles in the Congress:
Congresswomen Jane Harman, Juanita Millender-McDonald,
Grace Napolitano, Maxine Waters and Diane Watson.
Council President Padilla is running for the State Senate
seat being vacated by State Senator Richard Alarcon. The
primary election will be held in June 2006.
